itgetseasier is an imprecise gesture, an attempt at forming a language, a blank letter. summers of red Icees and stevie records, those colors i saw when i closed my eyes. this is me honoring tha ones that made me. i think genre descriptions are used as biology rather than tradition, a prescription rather than something evergreen. ali's baby is about revitalization- tha necromantic power of tha sampler that pulls tha old into tha new. i was rlly lost for a while...things just felt off, nothing felt new. i thank god every day for my brother kalil cause we had an entire album ready to go in 2020, a good 8 months of work or so. he didn't even blink when i told him we had to scrap it and get better. that level of openness is tha greatest gift and education i could've asked for in making something like this. throughout tha process we recognized that we're making rap music here, and if we wanted to make something new we had to use the language- you start from the dead and move forward. there's a lot of transition in this one, a lot of ache, it feels like your knees popping as you grow. i know this is a sad one y'all but i promise me and griffin were having a fucking blast making this...tha glue of this record, and ali's baby as a project, was rlly formed in that year we spent crash testing everything. ripping tha doors off stuff just to see if something else fits. somewhere in all those .wav files we made something i could've never even imagined making- we had finally found something new. we honor tha dead, we stay with sound...tha colors will fly.
